Three great things about the Lake District
Lake Windermere
England’s largest lake is one of the region’s main focal points. Take a guided boat trip to explore it at ease, or pick up a kayak, canoe or paddleboard to truly discover its charms on your own terms.
Wonderful walks
You’ll find there’s no shortage of trails to explore in this beautiful part of the world. Select a family or dog-friendly route (there are plenty!) or tick off a renowned Wainwright route, which explore the lakes and fells of the region.
Literary connections
Children’s author Beatrix Potter made the Lake District her home, and you’ll find plenty of evidence, from The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction to the Beatrix Potter Gallery. You can also follow in the footsteps of poet William Wordsworth at Wordsworth House and Dove Cottage.
The Lake District is home to some well-known peaks: the Old Man of Coniston or maybe Scafell Pike – the highest point in England. Visit the abandoned mines around Honister and the ruined abbey of Furness. Take a trip to see Dove Cottage and Rydal Mount, both former homes of William Wordsworth. Poetry was not the only writing inspired by the district. The little ones will love the World of Beatrix Potter, where Peter Rabbit and the rest of the gang are brought to full furry life. Or try the Lakes Aquarium or the South Lakes Wild Animal Park. Fly a kite on the beach at Morecambe Bay or get out on the water and try a spot of sailing in Lake Windermere. Less outdoorsy thrill-seekers can head to Blackpool – it's only an hour away.

What our park team love about the Lake District
Enjoy a day out in Cartmel: visit the 12th-century Priory, stop off for lunch at The Cavendish Arms and finish your day at Unsworth Yard where you’ll find local craft beers, artisan wines, local cheeses and live music. Don’t forget to pick up Cartmel’s famous Sticky Toffee Pudding on your way home!
Head to Grizedale Forest at the foot of Old Man Coniston and let your four-legged friends run free. There’s a variety of walks for all abilities and some stunning views of Lake Windermere to take your breath away! Or explore the local legend and make your way to Humphrey Head to see where the last wolf in England was seen.
What better way to start the day then a walk through Lakeland's stunning grounds? Head onto the sea wall to walk the perimeter of the park with views right across Morecambe Bay.
Visit Lakeland Maze Farm Park: a working farm with all varieties of animals, tractor rides, soft play, go-karts and the largest maze in Cumbria! Then, of course, a visit to Peter Rabbit and all his friends at The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction in Bowness-on-Windermere.
