What sizes are static caravans?
Static caravan sizes have increased considerably since their conception and the 1980s saw massive changes in the comfort and space provided as caravan design evolved to include in-caravan bathrooms and kitchens. Static caravans in the 21st century are extremely roomy and have space saving features to suit modern-day living. Read on to understand the different sizes of caravans available in the UK and the ones we've on sale today at Haven.
How are caravans measured?
Caravans are typically sized in feet rather than metres. For those of us who weren't born before the 70s, and aren't familiar with imperial measurements, we've added metric equivalents to this article. Caravans are measured: front to back (the length) and side-to-side (the width) and figures exclude any extra space you may get with decking.
What is the standard size of static caravans?
Caravans are either built as a single or twin unit, with twin units offering the most space. Height varies as some models have pitched roofs or rooflights, which along with providing a touch of elegance, also can make the caravan feel more bright and airy.
Single-unit static caravans
You'll tend to see 10ft (3.04m) or 12ft (3.66m) wide single-unit caravans in the marketplace, although 13 - 15ft (3.96 - 4.57m) wide units exist too. They can be as long as 45 feet (13.71m) and are built as one-piece.
Twin-unit static caravans
These are made in two halves and each half is at least 10ft wide (3.05m) so you get twice the width of a caravan. Length can vary but 40ft (12.09m) is common. You'll see these twin units called caravans and sometimes lodges, it varies across the industry. At Haven, our caravans are single units and our lodges are double units.

Please note: sizes help to give you scale when you’re exploring options, but caravan manufacturers are experts at making the most of every centimetre of space and you’ll be surprised how roomy the smallest of static caravans can feel. Caravan layouts are varied and rooms in a 2-bedroom layout will have different proportions internally to a 3-bedroom one.
